Medical air mattresses can be extremely helpful to residents who spend a lot of time in bed. Whether they suffer from limited mobility due to aging or a chronic condition, residents who spend most of their time in bed risk the development of bedsores, which is serious. These sores can develop from lying on a regular mattress for too long. Bedsores are painful and can lead to systemic infection. Medical air mattresses offer relief from bedsores by alternating or shifting the pressure points in the mattress, allowing the resident to rest comfortably for long periods of time without experiencing the discomfort of bedsores or other injuries.
These mattresses are needed at both Bethania MPCH and Pembina Place MPCH and the costs are approximately $3500 each.
